Who created/invented emojis?

Emojis are credited to Shigetaka Kurita, a Japanese interface designer. In the late 1990s, he created the first set of emojis for a mobile communications company in Japan. These emojis were simple and designed to be used on small screens. Over time, emojis have become more complex and are now used all over the world.
