Is it love? He is always there. Every morning.

Is it love?
July 5th
He is always there. Every morning. Same corner of the breakroom, same black coffee, same newspaper. I pretend not to notice, but my eyes always seem to drift towards him. There’s something about the way the light catches his hair, the way he smiles at the barista, the way his brow furrows when he’s reading. It’s infuriating.
July 10th
Saw him again today. This time, he smiled at me. A real smile. Not a polite nod, but a genuine, crinkling-eyes kind of smile. My heart did a little flip-flop in my chest. Maybe he notices me too?
July 15th
I’ve been practicing my “casual encounter” routine. “Oh, you like the sports section too? I usually read the business pages, but today…” I’ve even imagined our conversation flowing seamlessly. He’ll be charming, I’ll be witty. We’ll fall effortlessly into easy banter.
July 20th
Disaster. Absolute disaster. I finally mustered the courage to approach him. “Lovely day, isn’t it?” I managed to squeak out. He just nodded, eyes glued to his phone, and mumbled something about the weather. I wanted to melt into the floor.
July 25th
Saw him with her. In the elevator. Laughing. Hugging. She was stunning. Tall, with a smile that could melt glaciers. My carefully constructed fantasies shattered into a million pieces.
July 30th
I’ve been avoiding the breakroom. Taking my coffee to my desk, pretending to be busy. But he always seems to find me. A lingering glance in the hallway, a casual “good morning” in the elevator. It’s like he’s trying to make amends, but all it does is stir up the pain.
August 5th
He brought me coffee today. Just appeared at my desk with a “mocha, extra hot,” my favorite. He said he overheard me ordering it last week. I mumbled a thank you, feeling a strange mix of anger and gratitude.
August 10th
He’s been bringing me coffee every day this week. Different flavors, always a little something extra. Today it was a croissant. I’m starting to feel… confused.
August 15th
He asked me to lunch. I said yes. I have no idea what I’m doing.
August 20th
Lunch was… nice. We talked about our childhoods, our hobbies. He’s funny, and surprisingly insightful. He even admitted he was initially intimidated by me.
August 25th
He kissed me. In the park. Under an old oak tree. It was magical.
August 30th
He introduced me to her today. His daughter. She’s adorable, with his eyes and his smile. Apparently, she’s been bugging him to find a nice lady to play with.
What’s the date today?:
I’m pregnant.
